About this work

A study for a stage decor on a dark ground shows two sculptural groups in ochre, orange and yellow: a dancing cluster of figures on the left and a mounted rider on a rearing horse on the right. Handwritten French notes beneath describe the illuminated statues and grotesques, and the title Le Triomphe de Paris, attributed to Robert Delaunay, is dated to the 1920s.
