About this work
A woodblock print by Hashiguchi Goyō titled Yabakei, dated 1918, shows a rain-soaked dirt road curving through a green and reddish landscape. A black ox pulls a yellow-roofed cart beneath an orange oiled-paper umbrella, while a figure with an umbrella walks nearby. Thatched farmhouses and a distant mountain are visible through the falling rain.
