About this work
This pen-and-ink illustration by Walter Crane, dated 1893, depicts a wooded scene where a kneeling, wild figure looks up at two standing men in period dress beneath a tree. A carved face peers from the trunk above, and mushrooms and grass fill the foreground. A decorative border frames the image, with a quotation from Act III printed along the bottom edge.
