About this work

A watercolor shows a group of figures gathered at wooden tables in a sunlit courtyard beneath tall trees, beside a timber-framed building with leaded windows and climbing ivy. A bearded man in a red and orange robe reclines at the center while others drink and converse, and a dog rests on the ground. The work is by J.E. Buckley, dated 1871, and depicts a scene from Shakespeare's King Henry IV, Part 2.
