About this work
A mezzotint-style print shows a dim workshop interior lit by a glowing hearth at center. A standing figure in dark clothing leans over the fire while a seated man in a light shirt, with a glass vessel raised to his face, works at a bench beside him. Hanging chains, a pottery jug, and scattered tools fill the cluttered space. The print is titled A blacksmith's forge and is attributed to James MacArdell.
