About this work
A dense lithographic battle scene shows soldiers surging up a slope with raised bayonets and rifles, a cannon in the foreground, and billowing smoke rising from a fortified wall. A harbor with ships and a distant town appear at the left, under a hazy sky. The print is attributed to Gustave Doré and dated 1856, and its title is Prise de Sébastopol.
