About this work
An engraved portrait of a man in a dark velvet coat and lace cuffs, with powdered curled hair, resting his hand on the edge of a large canvas or frame. The inscription beneath identifies the sitter as Antoine Pesne, first painter to the King of Prussia and former professor of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in Paris, painted by himself and engraved by his friend Schmidt, a member of the same academy, in 1752. The print is attributed to Georg Friedrich Schmidt.
