About this work
A color lithograph shows a line of white-hulled United States Navy warships steaming through choppy green water under a dramatic cloudy sky, with American flags flying and black smoke trailing from their funnels. Captions beneath name the armored battleship Massachusetts, the armored cruiser New York, and the cruisers Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Newark. The print is credited to Currier & Ives and dated 1893, the year of the copyright notice.
