About this work
This 1867 print by Thomas Nast shows a luminous robed figure and winged angels gathering children in a moonlit graveyard. Inscribed tombstones and a stone coffin in the foreground bear texts describing children killed by their parents and relatives, and a small infant lies dead in the grass. The scene is rendered in fine engraved line work within an arched border that reads 'Suffer Little Children to Come unto Me.'
