About this work
A pen and ink drawing on paper shows a winged figure holding an armillary sphere atop a column with a wheel, beside a tower where a woman peers from a canopied niche. A man in short tunic points upward toward the figures, with columns of handwritten Latin text filling the upper and side margins. The work is catalogued as The Statue of Opportunity, a Passer-by, and Remorse, by an anonymous French artist, dated c. 1512/1515.
