About this work
An engraved portrait shows a seated man in a powdered wig and fitted coat, reading a large open book on a draped table beside a column. A quill and inkwell rest on the table, and a river landscape with a stone bridge is visible beyond the balcony. The print is titled Daniel-Charles Trudaine, attributed to an anonymous French 18th-century artist after Louis de Carrogis, called Carmontelle, and dated c. 1761.
