About this work
This pen and ink drawing with grey and white wash shows a design for a door knocker featuring a mascaron face at the top, surrounded by childlike putti and a triton and nereid holding a ring between them. Acanthus scrollwork forms the base, and the sheet bears handwritten annotations and dimension markings. The work is catalogued as Door Knocker with Triton, Nereid, and Putti by an anonymous Italian artist of the 17th or 18th century, held by the National Gallery of Art.
