About this work

A red chalk drawing shows a wild boar lying low on the ground with its head resting forward and its legs tucked beneath its body. The animal's bristled coat is rendered with fine directional hatching, and a handwritten German inscription, "Wild-Schwein im Lager," appears at the top. The work is attributed to an anonymous German artist of the 18th century and is held by the National Gallery of Art.
