About this work
This brown ink and wash drawing, titled Jacob and Rebecca before Isaac, shows an elderly bearded man reclining in a draped bed while a kneeling woman gestures toward him and a second woman leans in behind. A dog sits in the foreground beside a table holding a ewer, and faint pencil sketches of figures and architecture appear at the right. The work is attributed to an anonymous French artist of the 18th century.
