About this work
A botanical painting shows two white lotus blossoms, one fully open and one in bud, rising on long green stems above large, veined, ruffled leaves. A pale green seed pod extends diagonally across the lower right, and the stem bases are shown cut. This drawing, titled East Indian Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera), was made by an anonymous British artist in the 19th century and is held by the National Gallery of Art.
