About this work

This leaf from the Apocalypse of John, a German print from the fifteenth century dated circa 1465, shows a scene of an angel above falling figures and a second register of saints with mounted horsemen and armored soldiers. Latin text runs in bands across the top and between the two scenes, with a standing saint holding a staff at left. The drawing is in dark ink on a pale, worn sheet.
