About this work

This sheet displays an ornamental alphabet of decorative capital letters arranged in three rows, each letter filled with interlaced hatching, banded strokes, and curling flourishes. The letters are printed in dark ink on a pale, slightly toned page with a ruled border, and the faint text of a page behind them is visible at the right. The work is catalogued as Ornamental Alphabet by an anonymous German artist of the 15th century, dated 1480/1490.
