About this work

A charcoal drawing on blue-grey paper shows a young woman in a fitted bodice and voluminous skirt with a long trailing train, her head turned to one side beneath a high hat with a plume. The loose, quick strokes concentrate on the folds of the dress and the movement of the figure as she steps forward. This anonymous French work is dated to the 1890s and is held by the National Gallery of Art.
