About this work
This pen and gray wash drawing depicts the mythological scene of the Judgment of Paris in a wooded landscape, with a shepherd presenting an apple to one of three standing women. Seated and reclining figures on the right and a rocky outcrop with a seated figure on the left frame the composition, while a seated deity and cherubs appear in the clouds above. The sheet is enclosed in an elaborate rococo cartouche, attributed to an anonymous Dutch artist, dated c. 1745.
