About this work

This engraving shows a man in profile wearing an ornate fantastic helmet crowned with a winged figure and a serpentine creature. His armor is decorated with scrollwork, a bird, and a lion's head at the lower left. The work is attributed to an anonymous Italian artist of the 15th century and dated c. 1470/1480.
