About this work

This oil painting shows a sunlit valley framed by grassy slopes and clusters of trees, with a conical peak and distant mountain ranges fading into a pale sky. A small stone building sits on a ridge near the centre, and a hazy plain opens beyond. Théodore Caruelle d'Aligny painted this work, titled Italian Hills, in 1826.
