About this work

A dense still life shows freshly caught fish, a red squirrel draped over a rock, and a nest of nestlings set atop a barrel among poppies, daisies and irises. Songbirds perch and fly through the dark woodland setting, with a frog, snail and mushrooms on the forest floor and a gun resting behind the scene. The painting is attributed to Abraham Mignon and dated 1675.
