About this work

A full-length portrait shows a standing man in a white cloak over a gilded cuirass, wearing a blue sash, white breeches and tall black boots. He rests one gloved hand on a polished helmet with a red plume atop a stone pedestal, and holds a gold-hilted sabre, while a red drape and dramatic cloudy sky fill the background. The painting is catalogued as François Gérard's work from 1815, held in the Musée du Louvre.
