About this work
A stormy sea scene shows a large brown-sailed boat heeling in the foreground, with two sailing ships further right and a small rowing boat with several figures in the lower left. Wooden groynes frame the left and right edges while the low horizon and heavy clouds dominate the composition. This seascape by Jan Porcellis, dated 1620, is held by the Kunsthistorisches Museum.
