About this work
A 1649 painting titled Vor dem Gasthaus am Dünenrand by Gerrit van Hees, held by the Kunsthistorisches Museum. It shows a sandy dune landscape with a dirt road where travelers on foot and a figure with a dog pass a rustic inn. Two large trees dominate the left, while white horses are tethered near the inn's entrance under a broad, cloud-filled sky.
