About this work
This arched painting by Willem van Mieris, dated 1684 and held by the Kunsthistorisches Museum, shows a woman in a gold satin gown with a blue and gold sash, a black velvet cloak over her arm, and white feathers in her curled hair. She extends a red bracelet with a dangling tassel toward the viewer, set against a dusky landscape of cypresses and hills beside a stone architectural column.
