About this work

A crowded village kermis unfolds across a wide panoramic scene, with peasants dancing, drinking, and gathering around a raised wooden stage where a performance takes place. Thatched cottages, a church tower, and carts frame the busy square under a hazy sky. Painted in 1604 by Jeremias Günther, the work is held by the Kunsthistorisches Museum.
