About this work
This dark baroque painting shows an elderly bearded man holding a knife over a young boy who lies on a rock, while a winged angel descends from golden clouds to intervene. A ram stands at the right edge beside wood and rocks, and cherubs appear in the upper sky. The work is attributed to Luca Giordano and dated 1680, and it is held by the Hermitage Museum.
