About this work

A family group is arranged in a formal interior with a marble-tiled floor, a gilt writing table, and sculpted busts and oval portraits on the walls. A seated man in a red velvet coat and sash holds an open document, while a woman in blue and a girl in pink stand beside him, and younger children with a small dog complete the composition. Chernyshev with Family, by David Luders, dated 1750, held by the Hermitage Museum.
