About this work

A reclining nude man lies across a white bed with his arm raised, while a woman with pale hair and a jeweled headpiece leans in beside a bearded man in blue who grips a dagger. The composition shows a dramatic moment of betrayal in a richly draped bedchamber, painted in Giambattista Pittoni's oil on canvas dated 1720 and held by the Hermitage Museum.
