About this work

This painting depicts a lavish mythological banquet set beneath classical stone arches, with reclining and seated nude figures, flying cherubs scattering flowers, and servants attending a long table. A storm gathers over a seascape on the left, where sea creatures and figures move through the water. Hans Rottenhammer painted this work in 1600, and it is held by the Hermitage Museum.
