About this work

A woman in a blue bodice holds up a white cloth while a boy kneels on a tiled floor, gathering the fragments of a blue-and-white porcelain plate. Shards are scattered around them, and a stacked porcelain bowl and teapot sit on a marble-topped cabinet beside a fireplace. Pehr Hilleström painted this interior scene in 1781, now held by the Hermitage Museum.
