About this work

A crowded formal interior shows elegantly dressed couples dancing on a wooden floor while seated women and men watch from the sides. Musicians play on a raised area at the back beneath a dark hanging lamp, and tall windows light the room from the left. The painting is attributed to Hieronymus Janssens and dated 1650, held by the Hermitage Museum.
