A large panoramic battle painting shows dense ranks of infantry and mounted cavalry advancing across open ground toward a distant town with church towers. Smoke drifts over the fields, a field gun stands at center left, and a wayside crucifix rises at the right edge. Painted in 1852 by Alexander von Kotzebue, the work is held by the Hermitage Museum.
