A dim kitchen interior shows several figures at work, including a seated woman in a green dress and white headscarf, a kneeling woman in a yellow apron cleaning fish, and a woman tending a pot at the hearth. A small mirror on the back wall reflects another group of figures, and copper vessels, fish and a hanging bird fill the tiled floor and walls. The painting is by Hendrik Martenszoon Sorgh, dated 1649.
