About this work
A seated nude woman with braided dark hair plays a long-necked string instrument decorated with painted motifs, her legs draped in yellow-gold fabric. She rests on a red-and-cream pedestal covered with white fleece, with a ram's skull and patterned rug at her feet. The painting, titled The Mandore Player, was created by Théobald Chartran in 1879.
