About this work
A winter scene shows a crowd of figures on a frozen waterway beside a large brick townhouse with turreted gables and snow-dusted roofs. Skaters, a sleigh pulled by a horse, and people in dark period clothing move across the ice, while a church spire rises in the distant village under a heavy cloudy sky.
