About this work

This painting, titled In the Garden by Fritz von Uhde and dated 1908, shows two women seated in a sunlit garden beside a wooden fence. One woman in a pale blue dress works with her hands in her lap while the other, in white, sits nearby, and a white dog stands in the foreground on the dirt ground. The loose, feathery brushwork and green foliage create an airy, informal outdoor scene.
