About this work
A painted study shows a row of bearded apostles seated in profile at a table, facing left, with several hands clasped in prayer. The figure at far right is rendered only as a reddish-brown underdrawing, suggesting an unfinished sketch. This sketch by Alphonse Périn dates to 1836 and was prepared for the Notre-Dame de Lorette church.
