About this work

A painter sits beneath a yellow parasol on the rocky bank of a forest creek, working at an easel beside rushing water. Tall trees, a small waterfall, and moss-covered boulders fill the wooded scene, which is rendered in oil with careful attention to light filtering through the canopy. The work is attributed to Hermann Ottomar Herzog and dated 1880.
