About this work

A young boy sits on a wooden spindle-back chair, turned toward the viewer, wearing a white hat, a dark neckerchief, and red shorts with white stockings. The loose, sketchy brushwork and muted brown background focus attention on the child and the soft light from a window at the right. This painting by Christian Krohg is dated 1888 and is held by the Nasjonalmuseet.
