About this work
This charcoal drawing by Ludwig von Hofmann, titled Reitende Kinder im Walde, shows a nude figure with flowing hair and a cloth billowing behind them, seated or leaning over a horse on a shadowy forest path. Two standing figures embrace in the background beside dark tree trunks, and a pale horse-like form appears at the right edge. The soft tonal shading and dark surrounding foliage create a dreamlike, atmospheric scene.
