About this work
A pencil and ink study shows mounted cavalry riders and horses in motion across the upper half of the sheet, with a row of marching soldiers behind them. The lower register contains several standing and striding figures, including a woman holding a long rake and men in long coats, drawn in loose overlapping studies. The work is attributed to Ferdinand Hodler and dated 1908 in the visible signature.
