About this work

A hand-colored mezzotint showing a coastal scene in which white men in period dress restrain and drive enslaved people toward a boat, with a child pulling on a chain. Palm trees and a hilly shoreline frame the scene, and a seated figure in the boat bows his head. Created by George Morland in 1791 and engraved for the work's publication, this print is titled The Slave Trade.
