About this work

A bleak wartime landscape rendered in ink and watercolour, showing tangled barbed wire coiled around a shattered tree stump across churned, cratered ground. A dark, rain-streaked sky with a pale band of light sits above a distant line of broken posts and stumps. The work is by Paul Nash and carries the inscription 1917 in the lower right corner.
