About this work

Three men in early nineteenth-century dress fish from a riverbank beside a wooden footbridge and a weir, with one long rod bent sharply as a fish is caught. Willow and poplar trees and a distant hillside frame the scene under a partly cloudy sky. James Pollard's 1831 work, Trolling for Pike in the River Lee, records this sporting pastime in an outdoor setting.
