This oil painting shows an elegant interior in which a woman in a long white gown stands in a dark doorway, turned away from a man in black evening dress who stands by a fireplace beside a glowing table lamp. The room is furnished with red upholstered chairs, a patterned rug, and draped crimson curtains framing the doorway. The work is titled The First Cloud, by William Quiller Orchardson, dated 1887.
