About this work

This hand-coloured print by Thomas Shotter Boys, dated 1870, depicts the Hôtel de Ville in Arras with its tall, ornately pinnacled belfry and clock face rising above a richly decorated Gothic facade. Figures in period dress gather in the arcaded square, with street vendors and a sheltered stall visible at the right, while a half-timbered house stands beside the building.
