About this work

A hand-colored engraved plate titled Little Sandpiper, Tringa pusilla, by John James Audubon. Two small brown-and-white shorebirds with long bills feed beside a rippling stream and a small waterfall, framed by rocky banks and soft, tree-lined hills under a pale peach sky. The sheet bears the plate number CCCXX and the number 764 in its upper corners, and the artist and engraver credits appear beneath the image.
