About this work
A hand-colored engraved plate titled Little Owl, labeled Strix Acadica, shows two owls: one perched on a bare branch seen from behind, and another with spread wings and open beak standing on a mossy rock with grass tufts. The sheet is cream-toned with the plate number CXCIX and figure number 40 printed at the top, consistent with John James Audubon as the artist.
